Echoes of 11th May 2012 from GERMANY |
| |
|
|
The "Monnaie de Paris" facebook page confirms the release next year by Germany and France of a commemorative 2 euro coin in addition to their common 2 euro national coin. This coin will be issued on 22nd January to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Elysée Treaty, also known as the Treaty of Friendship, which was signed by Charles de Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer in 1963. It sets the seal on reconciliation between the two countries. With it, Germany and France created a new foundation for their relationship and put an end to centuries of rivalry.
.

According to the European Union rules each country can issue only one €2 commemorative coin per year, however, in t hecase of joint issues it can issue a second coin. So far this event is unprecedented in the history of the single currency as so far Member States were only allowed to mint a second commemorative 2€ coin in the year if a common coin was planned. It seems that it is an anticipation of a proposed new amendment, among other things, to reduce the duration to 6 months between two issues of 2 € commemoratives.

|

Like every, Vatican will issue a 2 euro commemorative coin in 2012. This coin will be dedicated to the 7th Word Meeting of Families. Here is the first picture :

The World Meeting of Families was first promoted by Pope John Paul II in 1994 as a three-yearly event. It has taken place in several cities: the first edition in Rome, followed by Rio de Janeiro (Brazil, 1997), then again Rome (Italy, 2000), Manila (Philippines, 2003), Valencia (Spain, the first hosted by Benedict XVI, 2006) and Mexico City (Mexico, 2009). The seventh edition is to be held in Milan in 2012. The event will be organised by the Diocese of Milan and the Pontifical Council for the Family.
The World Meetings of Families are generally split into two parts: one involving a series of conventions and another involving the faithful more generally.
The first, which takes place over several days, involves a series of meetings, talks and conventions on the theme chosen by the Holy Father (in 2012, “The Family: work and celebration”). These events are particularly aimed at those engaged in pastoral work.
The second part is more specifically aimed at the faithful, and involves all the families of the hosting Diocese and of the world. The World Meeting will open on Saturday with a prayer vigil in the presence of the Holy Father, which will give voice to testimonies of life and faith by families from various countries. The Meeting culminates on Sunday morning with Holy Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI before hundreds of thousands of gathered believers.
«Dear Families here united! – urged Pope John Paul II in his homily for the first edition of the World Meeting - Families throughout the world! I hope that today's Eucharistic Celebration and our common prayer may help you to recognise your vocation, your great vocation in the Church and in the world. This vocation comes from Christ, who “sanctifies us” and “is not ashamed to call us brothers and sisters”, as we heard in the reading from the Letter to the Hebrews. This is Christ's message to you today: “Therefore go and make disciples of all families”. Announce the Gospel of eternal salvation, that is the “Gospel of the families”. Christ is the Gospel, the Good News. “For there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved”. Christ is forever. Christ is “the same yesterday and today and forever!”».

A referendum on adopting the Euro in Croatia was held 22nd January, 2012. This consultation is an important step in the adoption of the euro and the "Yes" obtained 66% of the votes.
With such an important result, the Governement of Croatia must now convince the European Union.
If the 27 countries of the European Union confirm the adoption of the euro for Croatia, the year 2012 could be a banner year for the country whose main asset is tourism.
If Croatia's accession to the euro becomes a reality, the first euro "Croatian" may be issued in 2017.

| |
|
|
Slovenia has just announced the release in 2013 of a 2 euro commemorative coin. The coin will be dedicated to 800 years of the discovery of the Postojna Cave.

Postojna Cave is a network of 20 kilometres of passages, galleries and chambers into which experienced guides have accompanied more than 31 million visitors in the last 188 years. It is the largest cave in the “classic karst” and the most visited show cave in Europe. In 1872 railway lines were laid in the cave; electricity arrived in 1884. Today you begin your visit aboard the cave train; the electric lighting allows you to admire the size and splendour of the underground world, where the geological past is recorded in a unique manner. Visitors to the cave are dazzled by a wealth of speleothems: calcite formations, stalactites and stalagmites abounding in a variety of shapes, colours and age. The constant temperature in the caves ranges from 8 to 10° C.

Echoes of 3rd July 2011 from ANDORRA |
| |
|
|
The head of the Andorran Government, Antoni MARTI PETIT, and the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Olli REHN, signed on the 30th June an agreement allowing Andorra to issue its own euro coins as from 1st July 2013. This was the final step in the long process of negotiations.

As it had happened with Vatican, San Marin and Monaco, Andorra with have to issue coins for circulation and not only use coins from its neighbour countries: Spain and France.
The country will have to mint at least 80% of the coins for circulation. The remaining 20% will be dedicated to uncirculated commemorative coins. It will have the right to choose freely which institute will mint the coins. It might be the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (in Spain). The design of the coin has not yet been decided.
The issue volume authorized by the Central European Bank is 2.3 million coins from 2013.
This information is official and provided directly from the European Commission.
A coin project has been delivered, but it is not official.
